Otter Creek was founded in 2021 by a group of friends who share a love of bluegrass and folk music.
While all members share a deep respect for tradition, they don't get too caught up with labels. Bassist Finn Lester-Niles, long immersed in bluegrass music while growing up in North Carolina, draws upon grooves from his experience in jazz ensembles. Mandolinist Asa Skinder brings to the group hard-nosed, Monroe-style mandolin breaks, and an uncanny ability to find cool old recordings. Katie Loomis-Adams leans heavily into the Old-Time fiddle tradition.
Now making their home in Burlington, VT, Otter Creek has spent the past 3 years exploring various subgenres of American folk music. Performing with a range of instrumentations has allowed them to experiment with Bluegrass, Old Time, and Country music, in all their respective traditional and modern forms.
